Product Description

Throwbacks and retro lids are nice, but nothing beats an original. Back in 1954 Bell founder Roy Richter formed his first helmet out of fiberglass and named it the "500." That moment was ground zero for th emodern motorsport helmet and it gave rise to an entire industry. Bell's new Custom 500 pays homage to Richter's original design and adds modern protective technology to bring the design up-to-date while still keeping the original's aesthetic. By combining a custom fiberglass layup with a specially designed EPS foam layer, Bell Engineers were able to craft a helmet that is at once light weight, narrow in profile, and DOT-compliant. Adding custom paint-inspired graphics, chrome trim work (on some graphics) and a quilted liner, the new Custom 500 custom looks as good as it performs.

4Excellent helmet...just make sure you order a size larger than what you measure
By Nubadopolis
What can I say? Bell helmets are the best. This retro helmet is no exception. This fits very comfortably and has a great custom stitched inner lining. And best of all, it is a low profile helmet so it doesn't look like you're wearing a beach ball on your head like other cheaper open face retro helmets that look like this. The finish on the orange flake is very professional. It's more of a root beer color than an orange, but it shines great in the sun and gives off an excellent hue.

The fit is very comfortable...it's easy to get on & off your head. You should probably pull it off your head after you remove your riding glasses as the padding tends to rub against the arms of your glasses. But you could probably manage to get it off & on your head with your riding glasses in place. That's another good thing about the helmet...it keeps your glasses in place if you're wearing them with this helmet. If you experience any flutter with your glasses, you won't experience any when you wear them with this helmet.

There is a bit of wind noise at around 50-60 MPH depending on what you have in front of you. If you're riding behind a windshield, then you probably won't hear much wind noise. But if you ride behind a wind deflector like I do (a Klock Werks 8" deflector shield mounted on a 2013 Street Glide), you'll get some wind noise over 50 MPH.

Overall the helmet fits very snug against your head. But make sure you order 1 size larger than what you would normally wear. For instance, I measured my head & it appeared that I was a medium. So I ordered this helmet in a medium. Big mistake. It fit (barely) but was very tight against my head. So I decided to send it back in exchange for a large. That was the right move. I just got the large & went out riding with it. Yes...this is the right size for me. So if you're in the market for this (or any) Bell helmet, please make sure to order it 1 size larger than what you would normally wear. Bell helmets tend to run small, so go 1 step up.

Overall, this is an awesome helmet which I plan on wearing for a long time to come. If you're looking for a minimalist retro helmet, this is it. Remember you get what you pay for, so spend the little extra dough & get a well known brand name helmet you can trust like a Bell. You won't be sorry!
